Striped Cleo for Kricket

My sister Kricket turned 40 this year, and I decided to make her this striped Cleo skirt as a prezzie. I’d made my other sister Elli a knitted cowl for her birthday, so I figured I’d keep the handmade love going and make Kricket a skirt. It’s been a while since I sewed anything for Kricket - I think maybe the last thing I made for her was this Ruby dress. So yeah…that was 10 years ago.

I used my Cleo skirt pattern and added a bit of length to view a, which is the view that has the cutout curved pockets and the hem band. I initially cut the view b length AND doubled the hem band height but the resulting skirt was much too long, so I took a few inches off of everything and I like it much better.

We had a nice hot trip to Arizona a couple weekends ago and luckily she took it along so I could snap a pic of her wearing it — it’s lovely on her, don’t you think?

Obviously we need to talk about this fabric because this is now the third garment I’ve made out of it (also this Emerald and these Luna pants). I love the Warp and Weft fabrics because they are a looser weave cotton that is super soft and comfortable to wear and has a casual vibe. The fun woven designs (by Alexia Abegg) give Ace and Jig without the price tag of an Ace and Jig garment (and if I’m not mistaken, they’re a little lighter weight, too).

There’s always a chance when you make a handmade gift for someone that they won’t love it, but Kricket really seems to like her new Cleo, so YAY for handmade gifts and YAY for Cleo, which is easy and fun to sew.
