A new way to follow my blog

For many years if you wanted to follow my blog you could sign up to get my Made by Rae blog posts sent to you by email, but the way I used to send out blog posts doesn’t work anymore, so I’m trying something new: sending them out using Substack instead.

(By the way, this is a different email list than my main “Studio Notes” newsletter which I usually send out 1 or 2 times a month - you might be signed up for that one already!)

I still love reading blogs and I still write posts on my blog, usually a few times each month (kindof a shocker, right!?). If you’ve been following my blog since I started writing it in 2007, or even in the past ten years, you’ve probably noticed that blogging has changed a LOT since then. Google Reader used to be an easy way to pop around from blog to blog and leave comments, but sadly is no more along with other popular blog readers (RIP Bloglovin) and feed services (RIP Feedburner). It’s definitely harder to find and follow blogs than it used to be.

However, in the past couple of years, I’ve noticed myself signing up for more newsletters and Substacks from artists, activists, makers, and writers. I love it when they send me little reminders in my inbox about a new pattern or recipe, a list of favorite things, essays, a handy tutorial, or just a “heads up” on a new blog post. I love to click over and read or save them to read on Saturday mornings with my coffee.

I thought you might feel the same, so I created A Substack so you can get my new blog posts in your inbox.

As a free subscriber, you can expect to get the following types of posts in your inbox:

  • My Friday Faves series - things I’m reading, making, and loving currently

  • Sewing tutorials and sewalongs - techniques and pattern hacks to help you transform a pattern or level up your sewing game, occasional sewalongs

  • My recent makes - things I’m sewing, knitting and making for my own handmade wardrobe or my kiddos.

  • New project updates - new pattern launches, workshops, sales and other events that you might be interested in.

This Substack, like my Studio Notes, is free, but I plan to add paid subscriptions so that you and readers can support me if you’d like. I’ll offer bonus video, sewalongs, and other freebies.

You will start receiving new blog posts in your inbox. You can also always just visit my website to read the full archives and other posts as they are published.

Some other reminders…

EDITED TO ADD: The blog will still live here, on my website, so that you can always follow along with other blog readers or read it directly!

If you can’t find the newsletter, check your spam folder. And please mark my emails as ‘not spam’ if you get the “might be spam” warning - that really helps me out a ton, actually. And if the newsletter isn’t in your spam folder, either, you should look in the Promotions tab!

Thank you so much for your support over the years. It’s been so encouraging to have you follow along and support my work and patterns.

And of course, feel free to share this with a friend who might be interested!

happy sewing!!
Rae

PS. Don’t want that many emails? You can still subscribe to my main “Studio Notes” newsletter instead:

(includes my quarterly Studio Notes with personal updates and link lists, new pattern launches, pattern spotlights, and sale alerts. I send it out 1-2 times a month, and you can browse the archives here first if you like.)
