Friday Faves / vol. 15

Hellooo!!

It’s been a while since I took the time to tappity tap one of these posts out!

In the last edition of Friday Faves, I sent out a “Send More Snow” request to the universe on Hugo’s behalf, and I can safely say that request was well and fully answered, as we spent much of the past two months being dumped on by snow and winter storms. The power was even out here in Ann Arbor for a number of days and luckily our house was spared. Hugo (who has asthma) also spent nearly 8 weeks with an upper respiratory infection that thankfully seems to have abated. All in all, not a greeeat February.

But! March is here, and the boys have birthdays next week and we are making plans to drive to Washington DC for a few days at the end of the month. In usual Rae form I have done very little to plan out either our trip (send recs!!) or the birthday celebrations. But next week Friday morning I’m hosting a local maker meetup at Dozer, so if you’re local and you’re not on my Sew Ann Arbor email list, shoot me an email and I’ll send you the details!

A few other things to share…

reading: I re-read Ruth Ozaki’s A Tale for the Time Being and loved it all over again.

picking: I’m hatching plans to paint my studio - I’ve had it for almost a decade and it needs a refresh before I open it back up for workshops and open studio nights this spring — and am currently picking out paint colors. It will come as no surprise to anyone ever that I am strongly considering this pink hue from Clare Paints.

knitting: With help from my friend Shirley, I’ve finally picked out a pattern for my yellow Mad Hatter by Wonderland Yarns: the Astragal sweater by Ainur Berkimbayeva, and am well on my way to having the hem done. Next up: sleeve island!

watching: Mr Rae and I watched RRR a few weeks ago for a date-night-at-home and it is so over-the-top awesome. If you have a chance to see it on a big screen (a friend mentioned that they are bringing it back to some theaters?), don’t miss out!! It’s also on Netflix. The dance number at the Oscar’s was cool, but it’s even better in the movie.

sewing: I finally cut into a precious piece of Nani Iro double gauze and sewed it up into a Wiksten Unfolding Jacket (pattern no longer available - try the Moss Jacket by Helen’s Closet for something similar) last weekend. The double gauze is cozy but light, so I’m expecting it will be a fun layer for warmer weather.

puzzling: Another week, another Piecework puzzle. Winner, Winner didn’t disappoint.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend! We’re driving to Kalamazoo on Sunday to celebrate spring birthdays with Mr Rae’s side of the family, so I’ll be knitting in the car.

xo,
Rae
