Get inspired by Amy’s Citrine outfits

Citrine pairs beautifully with my other patterns, like Cleo and Trillium, and Ruby, and today I want to feature Amy’s fun Citrine outfits that she brought to the studio last month for our Citrine shoot - she made all of these pieces herself. I was so delighted when she showed me all of these - I love how perfectly she coordinated these to create a mini-Citrine capsule wardrobe - like they were designed to be worn together!

I met Amy Cameron (@modernpearlco on Instagram) many years ago when I was hosting sewing nights at my studio (mental note: put those back on the calendar!!). Recently, she’s been helping me fit-test my new patterns early in the pattern development process. Because she is local and works a few blocks away from my studio, she can stop in to try on samples so I can fine-tune the pattern pieces before they go to testers. Amy is also an avid garment seamstress and once she gets her hands on the pattern pieces, she often sews up multiple versions for herself. Amy has a forcefield of joy around her that is contagious; she’s positive and hilarious and our photo shoots (she also modeled Ruby for our re-launch last summer) are always super fun.

Amy is an enthusiastic advocate for more inclusive pattern sizing and a plus-sized-sewing ambassador. She’s always encouraging me to get the word out about our expanded sizes more. I’m so grateful to her for assisting with fit testing and modeling the patterns for us.

Take a look at Amy’s beautiful Citrine outfits…

Amy made her Citrine out of a gorgeous black french terry knit fleece from Seams (our local-ish indie sewing shop about an hour away in Lansing) using view b of the pattern (balloon sleeves, gathered waist) with the darted front.

Her dress is a lengthened Trillium made from a lovely Essex cotton/linen canvas ( from Quarry Trail by Anna Graham for Robert Kaufman) that she found at Field’s Fabrics (also in Michigan). The grey and deep teal-blue colors of the dress pair so well with the black cardigan to create a really sophisticated combo, and I love how this demonstrates how Citrine can really dress up when you need it to!

Amy’s shoes are by Duckfeet.

Next up: Amy paired her Citrine with a delightful Ruby top that she created with a black and white batik (from Haberman’s - also Michigan-based) and a shirt-weight Manchester cotton in Titanium from Seams. She’s wearing these with ready-to-wear jeans and Duckfeet boots.

I love how this outfit shows that Citrine works both as an elegant layer over a dress or as a casual layer with jeans and a top.

Finally, I must confess this is my favorite outfit of the three! This Cleo Skirt that Amy made from Charley Harper Barkcloth (of course, from Seams) this summer for a wedding is absolutely stunning. Along with her Citrine, a RTW tank top and her Duckfeet boots, she’s created a head-turning ensemble that is totally chic.

And that’s not all — Amy made herself another Citrine out of a medium cotton spandex knit jersey- from Girl Charlee Fabrics - using view A of the pattern. As you can see below, this one is also an incredibly versatile color so it too coordinates well with all of the garments shown in this post (although I only managed to get photos of it worn with her Cleo).
