WIP: Patchwork Cleo Skirt

I’m on the home stretch with a Cleo skirt made completely from scraps. I began piecing together solid strips of leftover linen and double gauze back in 2018; all from other projects where I had saved the extra fabrics. I chose scraps that were large enough and cut 4” (ish) wide horizontal and vertical strips, although I used smaller pieces too. I used my serger to sew all of the seams, knowing that if I wanted to create a piece of clothing from them, I’d eventually want all of the seams finished from the inside.

UPDATE: It’s finished! See the outside HERE and the insides HERE!

[Pattern: Cleo, in my shop]

I have yet to attach the waistband and sew the hems, but I didn’t have much time to sew last week. Clementine turned 12 (!); I was sick for a couple of days (nothing serious, just felt horrible and slept for 5 1/2 hours one day; took it easy for a few days after that); we biked the Dequindre Cut with my sister and brother and law; went swimming with friends; had a pod-party BBQ on our deck. You know, life. Maybe I’ll get it done this week. Maybe not.

I think the most lovely thing about this patchwork Cleo is that I’ll be able to look at it and every single piece of fabric will have a memory of another handmade thing I made. Just curious if you recognize any of these other scraps from previous projects? Every single piece of fabric in this skirt has made a former appearance on this blog.

Finally: as I was making this, I stumbled across a couple of other beautiful patchwork skirts online. Wouldn’t it be lovely to create another Cleo like these?
