NEW IN PRINT: Emerald!
I'm happy to announce that we've added the Emerald Sewing Pattern to our print pattern offerings!
Emerald has consistently been one of our best-selling PDF patterns and we've had many requests for it in print. This pattern is the perfect late-summer sewing project; Emerald works great in hot weather and is just as lovely with layers as the weather cools into fall (I wear mine with Citrine over it).
about Emerald
Emerald is a intermediate-level pattern for a simple bias-cut shift dress or top designed for woven fabrics. The garment is composed of four main panels and is finished with facings, which highlight the elegant V-shaped neckline and curved hem. The dress view includes pockets and an optional sash.
Emerald comes in our extended size range and can comfortably fit hip measurements of 34-63" with 4-8" of ease (max finished hip of 67"), and chest measurements of 34-60" with 2-3" of ease (max finished chest of 62").
Find more details, charts, and photos of this patterns on the Emerald Page on my website. You can also find fabric recommendations, supporting blog posts, and other tutorials there as well.
Just like Luna, Trillium, and Rose, this pattern is printed with vegetable based inks on high-quality paper made with renewable eucalyptus pulp which is 100% renewable and easier to trace, fold, and store than traditional pattern tissue. All paper components of our print patterns are fully recyclable. The plastic zip bag is not recyclable but it is reusable: I personally love it for storing the pattern pieces, as it’s waterproof and far more durable than the paper envelopes, which have a tendency to rip and tear.
As you can see, we've redesigned the outer package (again!) for Emerald due to the rising costs of printing. With this redesign, we've eliminated the coated cardstock box-style envelopes, which was considerably more expensive to print and heavier to ship, and returned to a plastic zip bag package. The size of these new patterns is similar to the cardstock boxed envelopes (7x10") and larger than the Geranium patterns (6x9") to accommodate the larger pattern sheets with more sizes.
I think we've done a great job of keeping the overall look and feel the same, while at the same time taking advantage of the lower carbon footprint that the folded design provides.
Just in case you’re curious, here’s a walk through memory lane of some of my pattern packaging over the years…

Emerald stockists
I'm happy to ship patterns to you directly from my shop, but please also consider supporting these brick and mortar stockists who are helping me launch Emerald in print - they also carry fabric for Emerald so you can shop for everything you need in one spot!
Fiddlehead Artisan Supply - Belfast, Maine
Five Eighth Seams - Charleston, South Carolina

I hear all of the time how many of you appreciate the printed patterns for how easy they are to use. Printing patterns isn't something we can offer for all of my designs, but I love knowing that having the pattern in hand makes it that much easier for you to dive in and start sewing something.
I hope you'll enjoy these new printed patterns - as always, we couldn't do it without you. Thank you so much for your support!
PS. Join me tomorrow 8/5/23 in Kalamazoo as I celebrate the Grand Opening of Seams' second location with an Emerald launch party and trunk show! More details on Seams' Instagram.
