Friday Faves / vol. 5
Helloooo!
We just got back from a trip to Seattle to visit my parents and sister and her family. My kids hadn't been out since the summer of 2019, and then last summer my sister Elli moved just a few minutes away from my parents, so we got to see her and her family, too. It was a fun visit, despite the fact that Elliot and Clementine and I flew out without Hugo and Mr Rae; Hugo got sick the night before we were all due to leave. It turned out ok - they made it out on Sunday for a slightly shorter visit. We went to the Seattle Aquarium, Pike’s Place, and Woodland Park Zoo, and went on a gorgeous hike at Twin Falls State Park. It was a really busy trip, and on the last night I got a chance to make a quick visit to Tolt Yarn and Wool with my friend Megan.
It's been at least a month since I posted my last set of "faves," so I've got an extra big list today for you, plus some pics of our trip (if you make it to the end)!
a sweet treat: Elliot turned 15 last week (!!!) and asked for a tray of macarons from Le Bon Macaron for his birthday. Highly recommend these if you’re ever in downtown Ann Arbor.
hot pink shorts: I’ve been pretty busy sewing these past few weeks; I sewed a pair of Rose shorts out of a hot pink stretch twill that I can’t wait to wear when the weather warms up.
rainbow zip pouch: for Elliot’s birthday, I made an Open Wide zippered pouch (tutorial from Anna Graham) out of some colorful scraps I’ve been saving.
three dresses: and I made three samples (a Trillium and two Geraniums) for Anna Maria Horner’s new cotton lawn line, Vivacious. The fabrics were silky, light, and lovely to work with, and I dig those candy colors. I’ll post more on these soon.
[Sidenote: the theme of this month’s sewing seems to be “Things that go with my socks.” Also: when Elli saw the pic on the right she told me I look like “an Easter basket full of grass.” LOL]
More faves…
knitting: At Tolt, I grabbed some yarn and cast on the Mosaic Shawl by Gudrun Johnston on the plane. I’m having a hard time putting it down, it’s so fun!!
reading: I love memoirs, and Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner was great.
Making app: I just joined and am enjoying the Making App. It's like if Instagram were actually designed for makers. It's a bit glitchy sometimes but it has a calming effect on me to scroll a feed full of makes in all states that also is happily devoid of advertisement.
Cat app: Neku Atsume. OK...I'm addicted to this cat game. You put out toys and treats and cats come and play in your yard and you take photos and collect them in your catbook. When I finally had enough gold fish to get the yard expansion last week, I pretty much lost my mind.
Ok, that’s it for now! Enjoy some fun pics from our vacay:
