Five Fall Outfits
My favorite posts to read online are “what I’m wearing” or “outfit of the day / OOD” posts. It’s fun to see what people are wearing every day. I really chafe against the idea that the way we dress or choose our clothing is trivial or unimportant. Dismissiveness towards fashion is an outgrowth of misogynistic or patriarchal thinking, and fashion has historically been maligned or mis-designated as “women’s interest” (it’s not — just look at who runs the fashion industry). The way we dress says something about how we want to present ourselves to the world, it affects how we feel and behave, and is a way to express ourselves creatively.
With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to share more of the outfits I wear here on my blog. As I sew or knit most of my clothing, these outfits primarily feature things I’ve made for myself over the years, plus a few ready-to-wear (“RTW”) items that I’ve purchased (things like jeans and shoes, which I don’t sew or make myself). Most of the makes I post here on the blog are new, so I thought it might be nice to give some of my older makes a reappearance.
This set of outfits features items made with my Jade, Luna, and Trillium patterns:
Details: Jade tee prototype (previously posted here) + Fanciful Luna pants.
Notes: We had a pretty warm, wet fall here in Michigan, hence my most-worn items have been Jade + Luna combos with sandals. I don’t think I ever posted these particular Luna pants on my blog; Jess sewed these for me from one of my favorite prints from my Fanciful fabric line that came out in 2017 and I think I intended to post them as part of the fabric launch promo, but never did. I wear them all the time.
Details: Reversible Wiksten Unfolding Jacket (previously posted here) + rust double-gauze Trillium Dress (previously posted here) + RTW jeans-as-leggings
Notes: I love this outfit because it’s super comfortable. I want to make another Unfolding Jacket soon. I also love the way the bright orange in the jacket and in my necklace clashes with the rusty chestnut double gauze.
Details: Luna pants (previously posted here) + black Jade tee
Notes: These Luna pants are voile and pretty light-weight, so I probably won’t wear them much longer this year, but I love that this print by Leah Duncan has fun colors that match lots of other things I own.
Details: Yellow border - print Trillium Dress (previously posted here) + RTW leggings + a self-drafted jersey knit cardigan + Briochalicious shawl (previously posted here <- favorite line from that post: “many a “fuuuuuuuck” was uttered as I knitted along to British Bake-off back episodes”)
Notes: I accidentally put these yellow items together when I was packing for Squam and really loved how the deeper mustard tones in the shawl and sweater looked with the sunny yellow in the dress. They tone down the dress, which is fairly bright on its own, and the addition of black in the shawl, leggings, and espadrilles make it even more fall-friendly.
And last one!
Details: Liberty Trillium with sleeve (posted here, plus the free Trillium sleeve post is here) + Merino wool jersey Jade tee (previously posted here) + Smartw00l leggings.
Notes: It (finally) got really cold this week so I pulled out the wool layers. The long sleeve under a 3/4-sleeve was a little weird but somehow I think it worked.
PS. You can find the Trillium and Luna patterns in both print and PDF formats, and Jade in PDF, in my shop!
