Get ready for a Rose Sewalong!
Spring is usually a time when I’m inundated with sewing energy, but personally, I need a bit of sewing motivation right now, and I’m guessing some of you do, too. I’ve got two sets of already-cut-just-waiting-to-sew Rose pant pieces that are currently beckoning from my to-sew pile, so while we work behind the scenes to finish up our Washi pattern update, I thought it would be fun to have a Rose sewalong!
You can use this sewalong however you would like. If you are following along in real time, feel free to participate by sewing the steps as we post them, or just bookmark them for later.
If you’re finding this later, feel free to take it at your own pace.
Either way, I’d love to see your progress, both along the way and when you’re finished! Please use the tag #rosepantsalong if you post in-progress or finished photos on social media so I can see that you’re sewing along!! (Also - feel free to copy the top image in this post or repost mine on Instagram or Facebook and say “I’m in!” if you’re sewing along)
I’m also hoping to do a few videos on Instagram to answer questions you might have as we go along. Are there any questions that you have that you’d like me to answer? Leave them in comments!

Gather your Materials
Rose pattern
To sew Rose, you’ll need the Rose PDF pattern, which comes with print-at-home and copyshop pattern pieces, and digital instructions.
Buy it here: Rose Pattern PDF
I also have printed Rose Patternsy sheets available for a limited time which you can purchase along with the full PDF or just the digital instructions and have them mailed to you — those are also in my shop.
woven fabric
First, measure and choose your size. Size charts are on the Rose page
Next, consult the yardage charts on the Rose page to figure out how much fabric you need.
Take a look at my post about my favorite fabrics for Rose if you’d like some tips for picking fabric. Remember that muslin is a great way to go if this is your first time making Rose!
REMEMBER TO WASH AND DRY YOUR FABRIC BEFORE YOU START!
waistband elastic
You’ll need 3/4 inch [9mm] wide elastic, length roughly equal to your waist measurement, OR 1.5 inch [18 mm] wide elastic, length equal to half your waist measurement.
interfacing
The front waistband is interfaced, so you just need a small piece of garment interfacing, less than 1/2 yard. Here’s my favorite kind of interfacing.
thread
polyester, not cotton
Don’t forget to tag me @madebyrae and use the #rosepantsalong tag if you’re sewing along with us!
