Am back from Mexico
Hellooo! It’s always hard to start writing after a gap in posting (the holidays have come and gone since my last post. Woof), and it always takes me a bit to figure out where to start. So. One step at a time. Mexico.
I spent last week in Mexico with my sisters Kricket and Elli, and we had great weather and a fun time together. We’d never taken a trip just the three of us — no spouses or kids — so this was a real treat and I’d been looking forward to it for a long time. Our cousin-in-law Eric opened a travel agency, Pocket Map Travel, last year, and I have to tell you, the only thing that’s better than a tropical vacation is a tropical vacation that someone else plans for you (sidenote: I also had Eric plan a road trip up the California and Oregon coast for my family of five last summer and it was totally the best).
Eric helped us plan a sisters vacay in Mexico that consisted mainly of vegging out with a bit of sight-seeing, as our true objective for this trip was to sit by the ocean and/or pool and read as many books as possible. We divided our week between two spots: Tulum, where we visited the Mayan ruins, and an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Moreles. Here’s some photos to give you a snapshot of our week!
I was totally into all of the embroidered textiles at our first hotel, La Luna, in Tulum. The pool and view weren’t bad, either.
Seeing the Mayan ruins at Tulum was a trip highlight for all of us.
We had the most beautiful sunrises in Tulum. This was the view from our cabana balcony.
One of the photos below (lower left) is from our visit to the eco-park Xcaret, which is hard to describe since we don’t really have anything like it in the states. It’s kinda like a Mexican Disneyland, without the rides. Super touristy, but it was fun. We really enjoyed swimming through the system of extensive underground rivers and caves that travel beneath the park, and there were more ancient Mayan ruin sites to visit here as well.
One of the fun things about going on vacation is getting to wear the aspirational vacation wardrobe you’ve been sewing up over the years, amiright? Here’s my Esme kaftan (first blogged here) getting put to good use.
Despite getting sick on the very last day, I had a really good week with my sisters.
Goodbye, Mexico!
