Liberty Garnet Top
I just finished this Garnet top (pattern coming soon - see this post for a preview) the other day and I’m excited to wear it for Christmas and other holiday festivities. The punch red color is cheerful and bright and seems appropriate to wear during this season of darkness and short days, an antidote of sorts.
Lawn is a nice choice for Garnet, as it is lightweight but has next to no drape, so it shows off the dramatic volume of the design well. These days I’m not trying to make myself look smaller or take up less space…I’m all about the Big Drama. This lawn in particular is Liberty Tana lawn - a silky lawn that I’ve sewn with in the past; it’s a bit of an investment, but it’s absolutely lovely fabric. I’m lucky enough to work just a few blocks away from Duckadilly (an online shop that specializes in Liberty - they have an immense selection), so when they had an open studio this summer, I picked this Edenham print out in person.
This version of the Garnet pattern is “view b” - one fabric, with tucks and elastic cuffs.
The only modification I made was that I did add an inch of length to the sleeves below the lowest tuck, because I have long arms. I’ve noticed that the sleeve hits closer to my elbow than mid-forearm, so I was playing around with adding a bit of length.
I think Garnet looks equally great tucked or untucked; here’s a few more shots, this time with it tucked in:
The Garnet pattern is coming soon!!!
I hope you are as excited as I for this pattern! Stay tuned for more peeks at the Garnets I’ve been sewing over the past few months, and of course, a launch post soon!!
