Pattern Spotlight: Geranium Expansion Pack
It’s that time of year for holiday parties and last minute Christmas sewing, so I thought it would be a good time to shine the spotlight on the Geranium Expansion Pack, a pattern that has enabled many a holiday and special occasion dress.
The Geranium Expansion Pack is an add-on pattern that I designed to be used in conjunction with the original Geranium Dress, and of course it’s been used over the years by many people to create adorable dresses for all sorts of celebrations: birthday, first day of school, wedding, you name it, but also just every day wear. This is THE essential pattern if you've already tried the Geranium pattern and want to try adding sleeves, collars, bows or other fun elements to the original classic.
Nearly the minute I released the Geranium pattern (in 2013), I started playing around with adding things like hem bands and collars and sleeves, with a mind to eventually release the extras as an expansion pack. It took a few years to finally release it - I launched the Expansion Pack in 2017 — and since then it’s been really fun to watch everyone make such great dresses with it. They really are just SO. CUTE. with the collars and bows etc, and it’s really mind-boggling how creative folks have been.
Here's a quick look at the elements included in the Geranium Expansion Pack. I've linked the images to the blog post detailing each of the individual elements if you're interested in taking a closer look:

Again - I want to emphasize that this pattern is an EXPANSION (this confuses people sometimes), which means you must have the original Geranium pattern in order to use the Expansion Pack, which adds sleeves, collars, bows and other elements that aren’t present in the original pattern.
The beauty of the expansion pack is that it starts with the Geranium as a base pattern (which on its own already has so many fun elements - like different necklines, flutter sleeves, pleats, pockets, etc) and allows you to create even more fantastic versions with this beloved classic pattern.
One thing of note: the original Geranium pattern is sold in two size ranges, 0-5y, and 6-12y, while the Expansion Pack comes in one size range, 0-12y.
