Knitted things
We’ve been kicking the kids outside every day while we #stayhome, which has been utterly essential to our/my sanity. Though winter is technically over, here in Michigan we still get bouts of very cold weather well into late April, so these knitted items have all been worn quite a lot in the past few weeks. I really haven’t been able to do any sewing since we started our quarantine three weeks ago, so knitting has been for me one of the best ways to create something while still being present with my kids (unlike sewing, which is harder for me to do with kids running around). Bonus: it’s calming.
Here are a few of the knitted things I’ve made recently (I’m using this term generously…like in the past year or so):
Holcomb hat:
I actually started and nearly finished this hat a couple years ago, back when I was still googling “how to cast on” every time I started a new project 😂 I got nearly finished with it but realized that all of the stitches were slanted diagonally, so I ripped it out and started over. The second time it was much improved, though I procrastinated adding the faux fur Pom until about a month ago (silly how such a small thing can hold up finishing a project!). Pattern purchased here / Find it on Ravelry here)
Chunky cowl:
I purchased this ginormous yarn from Knit Collage in person at Squam Art Fair back in 2017 and then bought the cowl pattern from her website. This type of thing takes about 5 minutes to knit; it’s finding the required colossal knitting needles that takes some work. It’s SO cosy in sub-zero weather and I la la love the texture.
Pink scarf for Elliot:
He picked out this MadelineTosh yarn himself at Spun, our local yarn shop and then kept asking that I make it longer and longer so there’s like $80 worth of yarn knitted into this thing. If he ever loses it I might lose my mind. But he sure is cute in it, isn’t he?
Nurtured sweater:
I blogged this project when it was WIP but realized I never really posted the finished deal.So...here it is! I love this minty color so much it’s bananas. I wear it so much you’d think it was a neutral color (here’s a pic of it in action with my latest Rose pants and pink hair). I guess, actually, it is, for me at least. Pattern: Nurtured Sweater by Drea Renee Knits / Yarn: Scout by Kelbourne Woolens
(3 knitted things: Holcomb hat, Wanderlust cowl, and Nurtured sweater shown with Luna pants and Gemma tank w/ ruffle)
I have one more knitted make from this past winter to share yet, but I modified the pattern a bit so I’ll post it separately (a cropped Weekender sweater). I’m also currently knitting the Catbells sweater by Pip&Pin in a lovely pale pink, and have yarn on deck for the Capelet by Denise Bayron.
